Toronto (Weekendtrip)

In September it was finally time for my first weekend trip to Canada.

I took a redeye flight Friday evening from Phoenix to Chicago, from where I headed to Toronto. I was lucky enough to sleep through my entire first flight and on my second flight I got a row to myself. Because the second flight was nowhere near full, we got a full soda can each and a few snacks at a time.

P1000535Since the immigration in Canada is on machines I didn’t get the new passport stamp that I was hoping for. I changed and got ready at the airport before I headed into the city.

I took the subway and started with the sightseeing, which I planned with Google Maps while I still had wifi at the airport. My first POI was Casa Loma, the view of the city was amazing and it was worth it to go up there just for that, I can’t say anything about the inside of it, since I didn’t have the time and money. I continued my walk through the city to the Royal Ontario Museum, which I used for a little break, but didn’t really go into the museum. On my way to the hostel I passed the University of Toronto, which was an amazing architecture.

I dropped off all my stuff in my room and decided to check out Kensington Market and Chinatown, since thats the area the hostel was in. Then I decided to head to the CN-Tower, which I didn’t go up, because it didn’t seem worth the money. I kept looking for the Kelsey Montague Mural, but as it turned out that was removed just a few days before I go to Toronto.

I also went to check out the Harbourfront, which was really nice. On my way back to the hostel I stopped by the Old- and New City Hall, where the famous Toronto letters are situated. Since it already got dark, I decided to head to the hostel, get dinner and went straight to bed.

IMG_3689After a nice breakfast I packed all my bags and headed out for the day. During my research in the last few days I found Calle-Love-Cafe (367 King St W), where they have super awesome murals, where I went and improvised a tripod with my backpack to take pictures. The next point on my list was St.Lawrence Market, but once I got there I found out that its closed Sunday and Monday (*great research*). So I just moved on to the Distillery District, I could’ve spent hours in those cute little stores here. But since there was one last thing on my list I soon continued. My last stop for the day was Jennifer Katerina Koval’s’kyj Park (2 Polson St). It is a super nice spot to see the skyline of Toronto and completely free to get there if you decide to walk.

Soon it was time to head to Union Station to get on the subway to the airport. But because I wasted my time sitting at the trainstation using the wifi, I ended up having to take the fast train, which cost me more than planned (lesson learned).

I already did the US-immigration at the airport in Toronto and called my boyfriend and sister at home. Well and my host mum texted me, that there is a tornado in the Phoenix area and I might not be able to get there today. But since my first flight was to NYC I wasn’t too nervous yet. Both my flights were really easy and not busy at all. During the descend to Phoenix we flew straight through the thunder clouds and all the lightning around us was really awesome (at least for me).
