Chicago

In march Nadja and I stepped on another plane and this time we headed east to Chicago for the weekend.

5.March 2016

We took a redeye flight from Phoenix to Chicago and slept at an empty gate at Chicago airport for a little bit.

Around 9am we got on the train and made our way to the city center. We tried to get used to the big city again and decided to take one of those Instagreeter City Tours, which was really awesome. Its locals showing you around the city and telling you all kinds of facts and stories for free. We learned a lot, but didn’t have a lot of time for pictures. After a small lunch we decided to walk around again and found the Chicago Broadway, where we spontaneously bought some tickets for the musical If/Then in the evening.

From here we went straight to our hostel and on the Lincoln Zoo, its free but the animals seemed to not have a lot of room. On our way back to the hostel we came across a place, where you can feed birds and bunnies for a little donation. It was super fun, but probably meant for kids.

The musical was super fun and it was kind of cool to be an actual theater again. The musical was also a bit complicated, because it was all about if I do this… then this will happen. After the musical was over we stopped at the Chicago Theater and the Bean before going back to the hostel and to bed.

The breakfast at the hostel was really big and after checkout we headed straight to Lake Michigan, where we wanted to see the Navy Pier, but it was closed due to construction. The boat taxis, where also not open yet so we took an architecture boat tour. The tour was kind of long, boring and super cold. Our next stop was supposed to be the Restaurant on the Hancock Tower, but around lunch time it was only 21+ and therefor we had to move on. So we moved on to the Cupcake ATM and got a Deep Dish Chicago Pizza at Lou Malnati’s.

Our highlight of the trip was for sure, when we went to the Willis Tower and up to the 103rd floor, where there is not only a observation deck, but also a balcony completely made out of glass (including the floor). That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done.

Our final stop was the Route 66 sign, which was pretty small and hard to find.
