New Orleans (Weekendtrip)

At the end of October it was finally time for another Bucketlist weekend trip and the destination was New Orleans. I am not a huge fan of New Orleans but read for yourself why.

1.November 2019 & 2. November 2019

After I ate dinner with my hostfamily in Phoenix I headed to the airport and jumped on a flight to Atlanta. The flight was really nice (I missed the service again…), but at least the seat next to me was empty.

IMG_5376I really enjoyed my layover at Atlanta Airport, because they have a lot of interesting things, like a machine to practice CPR, a nice connection-walkway (Terminal A to B)… So I definitely wasn’t bored before I got on my flight to New Orleans. Once I arrived in New Orleans I got ready in one of the bathrooms before I tried to get on the bus E-2, which only takes cash (1,25$). When I was at the last stop, I decided to take an Uber to the streetcar stop, because the area didn’t seem safe enough to walk by myself. I decided to get the Jazz-1-Day-Pass (3$) and took the streetcar to the World War II Museum.

I am very interested in WWII and it was interesting to see how the US is telling the story. Obviously they focus on something different then Europe and I would definitely recommend the museum.

From here I decided to walk, because things weren’t too far apart. I stopped at District Donut, because I read online that they are supposed to be the best. But in my opinion they weren’t anything special at all. I stopped at the Greetings From NoLa sign, the Flamingo A-Go-Go- Bar and the the Auction Market House for some pretty cool murals.

I walked all the way to the hostel and the closer I got the unsafer I felt and I even took an uber to the supermarket and back (although it was only a 10min walk). So after dinner I decided to go to bed instead of heading out again.

3.November 2019

IMG_5562I had a very unusual long night sleep (10 hours) and after a loads of carbs for breakfast I headed out to explore the city. I walked down Bourbon Street to get to Cafe Beignet on Royal Street, where I bought some Beignets, but I didn’t like them too much here… The Carousel Bar in Hotel Monteleone was the next stop on my list, it is pretty cool because its an actual carousel that spins while you have a drink. I went to Canal Place Mall, to take a picture with the green “With Love From NoLa” wall and stopped by the Rainbow Payphone, before I walked down the Riverwalk to Jackson Square. Somewhere along the way there was a pretty impressive Holocaust Memorial. I decided to sit down and watch the river a bit, while I talked to my parents. The St.Louis Cathedral and the exhibition in the Cabildo are really nice and interesting.

And then I decided to head back to the hostel before it would get dark. I talked to my boyfriend for a bit, before I took a dip in the Whirlpool.

4.November 2019

IMG_5735After a quick breakfast and checkout I headed out and walked down Frenchmenstreet and headed to French Market. My original plan was to get Beignets at the Cafe du Monde, but the line was so long and I had planned to go to the City Park, where there is another location, anyways. I wanted to take the street car and buses, but because of constructions they never showed up and so I ended up taking an Uber. I decided to stop at St.Louis Cemetery #3 to make sure I get to check that off to. And I do have to say NoLa cemeteries are really one of a kind and really special.

IMG_5756I ended up walking over to City Park and tried the Beignets from Cafe Du Monde here (no wait at all) and they were so yummy and fresh. After a little walk around the sculpture garden, I jumped on the Streetcar to get to the E-2 bus. Since the bus stop where I originally was supposed to get on didn’t seem very safe I kept walking until I thought it would only become even more unsafe. The bus ended up having a lot of delay and I felt really unsafe the entire time.

At the airport I spent the entire time at the only outlet that would still charge thing and was super happy when I got to leave, because they didn’t even have stores. I had a stopover in Dallas, where I was lucky enough to get some Chick-Fil-A for dinner, right before they closed. I spent the time waiting repacking and watching Netflix and slept through the entire flight to Phoenix (despite uncomfortable Spirit seats).
