We were supposed to be in Washington DC today, as I had an entire trip planned for my parents and I, but well we all know trips are being cancelled more than booked right now. So I thought, why not let you guys see our plans and maybe you even get to try them out and let us know if they were doable.
Arrival Day
On our arrival day we were only gonna head to our hotel, which was gonna be pretty central around the National Mall area. The only other thing we had planned was to head over to George Town and walk around there for a little bit and just checkout the area.
Day 1 in Washington DC
As you all know I am a huge street art and walking lover. So we decided to do 2 days of walking around Washington DC. The great thing is that the city is totally walkable and almost everything is for free.
We were gonna start the day by taking the bus to the Capitol Hill and start our sightseeing tour. I love strolling down the streets during sightseeing, because many times you will end up finding a hidden gem some where along the way, which you would’ve never done if you are on a bus. Our next stop was gonna be the Supreme Court, I am sure I don’t have to tell you the importance of this building to the American people. Right on the other side of the building you will find the United States Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall. This is not a shopping center, but rather a collection of many different monuments and museums along a strip of grass and nature. But those monuments are gonna be part of the next day.
Today we were gonna hit all the important museums. Well at least they would’ve been, what we deemed important. The beginning of the museum tour was the National Air and Space Museum, this one is pretty cool, because they have all kinds of planes and space stuff to look at and touch, but they also sell Space food, like solid and warm ice cream. The National Archives museum has the original Independence Declaration, Constitution, Bill of Rights and all our public records. Our next stop would be the National Museum of American History. My highlight of the day (and to be honest the entire stay in Washington DC) was the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where Kelsey Montague has her wall art “displayed” and so I would’ve gotten to check off another one of her artworks, which would’ve been super fun and on our way to the nearest bus stop, we would’ve wandered around Chinatown for a little bit, before getting some well deserved dinner and sleep.
According to Google Maps our walk time would’ve been around 1:10h, so this was the perfect route for a day in Washington DC, because we would’ve had plenty of time to actually checkout all of the museums on our list.
Day 2 in Washington DC
Today was gonna be our last day in Washington DC, so after packing our bags and grabbing some breakfast we would’ve gotten back on the bus and headed over to the White House (check out my Instagram for some awesome pic of us infront of the White House). I mean the White House is such an impressive piece of architecture and to see it in real life is kind of unbelievable. From here we would’ve walked along the ellipse down to the National Mall. Today was our designated Monument/Memorial Day. So here were the ones we were gonna hit (in that order):
Washington Monument- National World War II Memorial
- Reflection Pool
- Lincoln Memorial
- Korean War Veterans Memorial
- Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
- Roosevelt Memorial
- Thomas Jefferson Memorial
From here we would’ve headed to the next bus stop to go back to the hotel to pick up our bags and head on to the next city.
Todays walk time would’ve been just briefly over an hour according to Google Maps, so perfect to fill a half day with some adventure and information.
Washington DC is totally a walkable city, but if you aren’t too keen of walking you might want to just hop on one of the many bikes in the area and ride along the sightseeing routes to check out the city.
