A day in Florence, Italy

I arrived in Florence as my second to last stop and after dropping all my stuff of at the hostel I decided to head straight to sightseeing which looked like this for the day:

My hostel was nearby the train station so I decided to head right out on one of the main streets and ended up at the Baptiserium near the Cathedral, but my end goal here was to reach Ponte Vecchio, basically a market on a bridge and the only bridge the germans didn’t destroy during the Second World War, but it was obstructed due to the destroyed buildings surrounding it.

From here on it was a little hike first to the Villa Bardini, which is in one of those cute little old neighborhoods of Florence. But the main goal was to reach Piazza de Michelangelo, this square on the top of a hill/mountain is the perfect spot for a view over the city and picture of the skyline. Something I admire about a lot of those old Italian cities is, that they have no modern buildings visible in their skylines.

On my way back to the city I came across the Piazza de Poggi, a little spot with a ruin tower, right before I got on the Ponte Grazie, a neighboring bridge to Ponte Vecchio from here you get the perfect view of Ponte Vecchio, which makes it the perfect location for your Florence Picture.

The Piazza della Signoria is one of the most magnificent places of the city as it used to be the main area for the city with all the politics going on here. The buildings are beautiful and worth seeing for sure. At the cathedral of Florence I decided to not go inside, as the line was going around the entire church. The entry would’ve been free, but I didn’t feel like standing in line for so long.  Instead I went to the Lindt Cafe at the square for a little chocolate croissant as a snack.

My next stop was the St. Lorenzo Market, where I got some fresh strawberries and peaches for my dinner and after my break at the hostel I returned to the Cathedral one last time. And when in Italy I can’t pass a good gelato place. So I ended up eating at Perche No and Grom Gelato for my dinner.

But that was the end of my day and so I headed back to the hostel and went for sleep. Which btw was super weird because my roommate was the 80 year old grandma that was working the front desk during the day in exchange for room and board…
