New York City Weekendtrip

For my last and final US-City Weekendtrip I decided to visit my Au Pair Buddy in her second home NYC again.

23.March 2017 and 24.March 2017

Since I got some days off left, I was able to leave on Thursday night. My hostmum dropped me off the airport (a little bit too early…) and I used the time to eat dinner and charge all my devices. I got super lucky at the online check in and got a window seat, but other than that the flight was all booked out. So as you can imagine, I didn’t get to sleep very well. But better than no sleep at all.

We arrived almost an hour too early in NYC and so I had to wait a little bit for Nadja to pick me up. At her place we used the time to catch up a little bit, before we headed out to the Outlets in Jersey Garden. We spent the whole day shopping and those prices were pretty good. We then headed to IKEA to eat a late lunch and get a little feeling of home. But the highlight was definitly Aldi, where I got to buy tons of food from home to almost normal prices.

25.March 2017

20170325_091041Today was all about sightseeing in the city. We took the train into the city and arrived around noon and started our tour right away. We walked from Penn Station to the Flat Iron and ate our breakfast in the Nutella Bar in Eataly right next to it. But since New York City has so much food to offer, our next stop was Dō. This is a new store, where you can buy raw cookie dough and eat it without any concerns. When we were full, we went for a little walk through Little Italy, Chinatown and SoHo.

IMG_9238Our next stop(s) were a little bit Gossip Girly. We made our way across the Brooklyn Bridge and stopped at the famous spot in Dumbo to take a picture of the Manhattan Bridge and Dan Humphreys apartment. After a little stroll through the Brooklyn Bridge Park, we decided to take a Uber to the Staten Island Ferry Building. Of course we took the Staten Island Ferry to cross over to the Island and pass the Statue of Liberty and we went straight back again.

20170325_154313On our way to dinner we went through the Financial District and took a picture with the Charging Bull. But our final destination was Elens Stardust Diner. We had to wait in line for about 1 hour (and dinner time) and got a pretty good table. The wait was not too bad and almost worth it. We were pretty lucky because, when we decided to leave they had power outage, which they couldn’t solve until we left.

On our way back to Penn Station we stopped at Times Square and finally got in our bed at like midnight.

26.March 2017

Today we left a little bit earlier, because we wanted to grab a brunch in NYC and we decided to try out the Kellogg’s Bar at the Times Square. It was pretty empty and their menu is pretty good. After our lunch we walked all the way to the Central Park.

IMG_9369We decided to get a day pass for the citibike and ride through the Central Park. At first we were riding our bikes on the East Side of the Park and stopped at the Guggenheim Museum. We used our time to walk through the Upper East Side and take the Rosevelt Island Tram over to the Island and after  a little stroll back to the City.

IMG_9381Back at the Central Park we rode our bikes over to the West Side and went to the American Natural History Museum. We took pictures with all the important things from Night at the Museum. When it was time for our dinner, we made our way back to the Upper East Side. Because we picked a german restaurant „Heidelberg“ for dinner and it was like heaven. It made me realize once again, how much I miss home (or the food from home).

On our way home, we stopped at the MET (another Gossip Girl Spot) and if you want pictures on the empty stairs, just go there at night. It was dead there and we were able to take nice pictures.

At home we fell to bed like dead.

27.March 2017

Since Nadja had to work, we decided to spend the day at home. So all I did was packing up all my stuff and squeezing it in my carry on. Since the way to the airport is usually pretty bad in the late afternoon, her host mum gave her off a little earlier to drop me off at the airport. Of course there was no traffic that day and we got there way too early for my flight. But I prefer to be too early than too late. I spent my time at the airport eating and watching some Netflix. I also charged all my stuff again, since my flight was pretty booked out and I didn’t expect any way to charge my phone in the plane or sleep.

The flight was leaving with a delay of over 30min, but arrived on time in Phoenix. As always I had the window seat and at first there was a lady sitting next to me in the middle seat, but luckily she decided, that she wants to sit somewhere else, so the seat next to me stayed empty. It was a quite flight, but also seemed, like it would never end. My hostdad picked me up at the airport and we were at home pretty late at midnight (and I had to work the next day…).
