Miami on Super Bowl Weekend

Since our cruise arrived back in Miami, I thought it would be a good idea to just extend the vacation to a stay in Miami. It wasn’t until after I booked my flights, that the Super Bowl was going on in Miami on this exact weekend. But was it worth it in the end?

Saturday

IMG_1387Since we had to leave the ship super early and my cruise buddy’s flight wasn’t going to leave until later that day, we decided to check out a little bit of Miami together. Our original plan was to just hang out at the beach. But the storm last night, the clouds and the on/off rain made that plan useless. But we ended up taking an uber from the port to South Beach anyways (our uber driver used to be Halle Berry’s personal chef).

Once at South Beach we realized that they had like a Super Bowl-fan-event there. So we walked up and down that area, taking pictures of all the cool things and watching the news station that made their live shows there. Since we still had all our luggage and seemed to have seen everything at the beach, we took yet another uber and drove to the Wynwood Walls.

IMG_E1450When we arrived at the Wynwood Walls it started to rain once again,  but we decided to still checkout the murals and got rewarded with little to no crowd.  I even ended up finding one of Kelsey Montagues Murals. We found a little cafe called “Pink Pie”, where we took a break and ate some tiny pies before taking our belongings and heading to the closest Starbucks, where we spent the rest of the evening, before my cruise buddy had to head to the airport around 4pm and I made my way to the hostel.

Once at the hostel I spent the rest of the evening in my bed rather than hanging out with the others, because I was just tired. I couldn’t really sleep until past 1am, because quiet time didn’t start until then and I was right next to the common area (with a window)…

Sunday

IMG_1547I got up a little early and ate some of the cereal that I brought from the cruise. Then I decided to get my bikini on, some sunscreen on me and off I went to the beach.

During my walk around the beach I called my boyfriend and my mom, but soon realized thats pointless because it was super windy. I also didn’t realize how chilly it was until I laid down at the beach. So after a short stint at the beach I returned back to the hostel for a quick shower.

IMG_1555Me and some other hostel guests decided to head down to the South Beach to watch the super bowl, as we were anticipating that there would be some public viewing. Turned out they had taken everything down and there was nothing going on outside of the bars. So we ended up watching the game until the first touchdown on one of the screens that was in a bar and then headed back to the hostel, where we watched the rest.

Monday

IMG_1593I had to check out early in the morning already and still had the whole day ahead of me in Miami. So I decided to go down to the beach for a little bit. But it was really boring after a while, so I decided to go back to the hostel and charged all my devices while talking to my host mom on the phone.

Since I had a lot of time on my hand I decided to take the bus from South Beach to the airport, which was only 3$, but took over an hour.

At the airport I went straight through security and got some dinner, before heading to my gate. At the gate I realized quickly, that I would’ve to check in my carry on. So I reorganized everything and it was then that I realized I had accidentally left my big sunscreen in my backpack and got it through security.

I had already paid for a window seat ahead of time and was really happy to have done so, because the flight was already exhausting that way and I don’t wanna know what a middle seat would’ve done to me.

It wasn’t until 2am that I finally got into my bed and I had to work at 7am again.

So would I recommend going to the host city of the Super Bowl?

I would not go to a super bowl hosting city again. Since I am not a huge fan of the game and there was not a lot going on from what I saw. The extra cost and everything would not be worth it for me.
