Highway #1 and Los Angeles – Reunion with my Family (Vacation #2)

We finally hit the road and drove down Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles.

21.August 2016

We drove down Pacific Coast Highway and stopped along the way at some view points or cute villages. Our first real stop was Monterey, where we walked around the harbor, before we headed to Solvang, where we spent the night.

After a nice and huge breakfast we hit the road again to make our way to Los Angeles, just like the day before we stopped at a few view points.

Once we got to Los Angeles we looked for parking in Santa Monica and actually got lucky enough to find 90min free parking (1,25$ for the next hour and then 1,85$ per 30min. Address: 271 Colorado Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90401). We walked over to Santa Monica Pier, rode the rollercoaster there and took a picture with the Route 66 Sign. After a quick dip into the pacific ocean by my sister and dinner at the pier we headed over to Venice Beach, where watched the skaters and dancers.

After that it was time to hurry to hotel and after check-in my sister and I jumped into a uber and headed to the US Bank Tower, because we had reserved tickets for the new observation deck and the sky slide. It was pretty cool and a unique experience, but I am not sure if its really worth the money. During the slide you can’t see below you and you are not allowed to carry your own camera on the slide. They have one of the employees videotape it, but that costs about 30$.

We then headed back to the hotel, to meet up with my parents and walk down the walk of fame to get dinner at Chick-Fil-A. We also stopped at the El Capitan, the Chinese Theater and everything else along the way.

On our way back to the hotel we bought some souvenirs and accidentally ended up in the smoking area of a night club… At the hotel we went straight to bed since it was already midnight.

After a huge breakfast we took the car up to the Griffith Observatory to enjoy the view over the city.

Then it was time for our actual plan of the day. We bought tickets to take a tour of the Warner Bro Studios, we got to be tested by Harry Potters Hat, sit on the FRIENDS-couch, sit on Harry Potter’s broom, fly in space or become the size of a Hobbit. During the Studio tour we got to see the set of Fuller House, Pretty Littler Liars and Gilmore Girls.

We stopped at a viewing point of the Hollywood Sign on our way to Disneyland Anaheim, where we were gonna spend the next day. Thanks to LA traffic, we arrived kind of late, but we headed into to Disney Downtown anyways, since we still had to get Disney apparel for my family.
