Phoenix Area – Reunion with my family

After some quality travel time it was time for me to return to Phoenix and my family followed a few days later.

Like I told you in my last post, I had to fly back to Phoenix on Sunday. After a good breakfast at the hotel, we drove to the airport of Page.

Well it was just a five minute drive, but I had to be at the airport 2 hours prior departure. The airport is pretty small and there is only one commercial airline flying here. During Check-In my luggage didnt get weight and they just put it behind a barrier. The ticket reminded me more about a receipt from a store then a flight ticket.

I had to wait for 1 1/2 hours until I finally got to go through security. During his time I was able to see, how they searched my suitcase (not a good feeling if you had to squeeze everything in there. After security check we had to wait again… When our plane arrived, I was able to see, that the woman who checked us in, was filling up the gas for the flight and she unloaded and reloaded the luggage.
When we got to the plane, the co-pilot welcomed us and gave us the safety instruction. And so we took off to Phoenix. The flight was a pretty new and cool experience and it was really funny, because I was able to see the cockpit and the area, where our luggage was. Of course there was no service (drinks, food), but I didnt expect that.

When we arrived in Phoenix, we didn’t stop exactly at the terminal, instead we had to walk to the terminal. There we got our luggage and my host mum came to pick me up.

My family finally arrived in Scottsdale and I was able to show them my home here in the US.

Since I had to work on Tuesday, my parents returned to their hotel, while my sister stayed with me. I took her with me and showed her a little of my everyday life here. The most exciting part for her, was for sure to be able to watch Pretty Little Liars on an actual TV and not on the computer screen.

After we dropped off my hostkids at school on wednesday, we went to meet my parents at a mall. We went a little shopping and I showed them around. They totally fell in love with Bath and Body Works and loved those candles there. Since I wanted to show the many different restaurants I picked the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. They enjoyed our lunch a lot and loved their cheesecakes (they didnt believe me, when I told them that they will be huge). Well after Lunch I had to go back to work, but my sister decided to stay at home and relax on the pool. After I went to Ninjutsu with my hostkids we joined my sister in the pool, before we had to get ready, because my host parents invited me and my family for dinner.

We went out to eat some steak (and other food I don’t even know). It was an awesome evening, with a mixture of german and english conversations. And I am very thankful, that my host family invited us and showed my parents a little of their world too.

We met my parents at the Phoenix Zoo to spend our time together until lunch. We really enjoyed our time in the Zoo, but the best part was the splash pad at the end. The girls enjoyed it to cool down and we would’ve loved to join them.

After a lunch and nap time at home, we went to V’s ballet class. My host mum came a little bit earlier and my sister and I went to the special event I mentioned in my last post. This event was a Football Game in Phoenix.

It was the Arizona Cardinals vs. Denver Broncos. Well I was at one game before and I watched a few on the TV, but I still don’t know all the rules.

My sister and I were a little late and then we picked the wrong sector and it took us quite a while to find out that we are wrong and to finally find our parents. But no one had a glue, how that game works. I did try to explain what I know, but it turns out, that this not a lot.

So we basically enjoyed the atmosphere and everything that comes with a game like this. It was an amazing experience for me and my family, to be able to see this game (together) and it turns out, that even if you don’t know all the rules and everything thats going on, you can guess a few things.

The most important thing (TOUCHDOWN) you can’t miss anyway.

Our last day together turned out to be a little bit different than we planned. Since the TV in my room had some issues the weeks before and stopped working on monday that week, COX came out to fix the TVs. It was not a few minutes, it took him about 3 hours to fix the problem and so we started with quite a delay to meet my parents at Scottsdale Fashion Square (another mall). But when we finally met them their we went straight to Build-A-Bear. We don’t have that store in Austria so it was on both our bucket lists and it sure is a lot of fun.

After this we ate a late lunch and went for a little more shopping. On our way to my host families house, we stopped at Target, because my family needed some more things to take back home. While my sister and I went to the movie theater to see nerve (you can read about the movie in the upcoming weeks), my parents stayed with my host family and had a great time there.

After the movie, it was time to say goodbye for my family and my host family. I took them down to the hotel, where we spent the night before going to the airport at 3am.
