After our first full day on the cruise. We got a day to explore the ship while on sea and a stop in Mexico, so more about that today.
A day at Sea
We started our day a little bit early, but gave us time to fully enjoy the breakfast buffet and indulge in all the food. We only went back to our room to put sunscreen on and get ready for the pool, just like the thousand other passengers on board the ship. So the only empty pool lounges where those almost flying away with you on it…
We ended up being lucky and found some pool lounges that were behind a wall (no wind), but still in the sun. This was perfect for our little nap before we headed out for a late lunch, with a stop to watch the Mr.Sexy-Leg contest at the pool. As always we went to the buffet restaurant for lunch and had so much food to choose from, we just never have to worry about not being able to find food… There is usually a slight difference between the lunch and dinner buffet, but the basics like Pizza, fruits, cakes, Mac’n’cheese and so on are always there.
Since the wind didn’t get any less, but instead even worse we decided to checkout the inside of the ship some more. After wandering around all the stores and decks I decided to get changed and headed to the gym. the view of this gym is just amazing, I mean who can resist a treadmill with a view of the ocean and horizon.
Back in the room I only had time for a quick shower and then we headed to the buffet restaurant for dinner. Today was a kids buffet, so they had popcorn, different chocolate covered fruits… We chose some things from the kids buffet (mozerella sticks, cupcakes…), but mainly our typical pizza, fruits, Alfredo pasta, Nutella crepes and more. We wouldn’t have minded to have the kids buffet more than once during the cruise.
We ended our night with a brief stint at the comedy show and hanging out at the night out party at the pool deck. We decided to head back to our room relatively early, because we had an excursion booked for our next day.
Costa Maya, Mexico (Tuesday)
A new day, a new port, a new country. We started our day super relaxed with a big breakfast, because the excursion we booked was going to go until after lunch. We also packed a few cereal boxes as a snack, because by local laws you can not bring anything that’s not packaged off the ship.
On our way off the ship we stopped at guest service to pick up the mosquito spray and we still managed to be one of the first off the ship and found our tour group super easily and fast. And with barely any wait time in the heat we got to go on our tourbus with AC and after some paperwork we were on our way to the Mayan Ruins. As always we had the only other German speaking passengers right behind us.
Once we arrived at the ruins we had a short bathroom break and then our Tourguides took us around the area and told us all about the Mayan Ruins and the Mayan People. Her favorite words seemed to be “but well” and “Amigos” (which by no means I am trying to make fun of her, but it was kind of memorable). We even had time to walk around by ourselves for like half an hour to take pictures, buy souvenirs etc. before we had to return to the bus and drive back to the ship. We spent a total of 1,5h at the site and I think that was more than enough.
Back at the port we had quite some time left, so we wandered around the stores and the little (touristy) port. We got our souvenirs back at the mayan Ruins, but we were unable to find any postcards like anywhere, which was kind of dissapointing as we both collect post cards from the places we visit.
Walking along the pier, we had a wonderful opportunity to take pictures of and with the ship, before we got back on it for a late lunch and enjoying the view from our balcony. We also took advantage of being back in our room kind of early and enjoyed a warm shower (and realized some more sunscreen would’ve been good…).
As every single day we decided to go to the buffet restaurant for our dinner and got like the exact same things as every day: fruits, pizza, Mac’n’cheese, Alfredo Pasta, chicken, Nutella-Crepes… And right after dinner we went to see one of the comedy shows and that was so fun. We originally didn’t want to visit the 80’s Party at the pool deck, but when we went to check it turned out to be super fun. So evening ended rather late again…
I can’t wait to tell you about our last 2 stops in my next post.
