Harvest Caye (Belize) and Roatan (Honduras)

Today I will tell you all about our last two stops of the cruise, which includes our least favorite one and if you want to know which one it was and why keep on reading.

Harvest Caye, Belize – Wednesday

IMG_0891Our stop at Harvest Caye wasn’t off to a good start at all. After our little misery at the NCL’s other private Island (click here if you don’t know what I am talking about), we decided to not be one of the first ones getting off in Harvest Caye, but instead to only get up when we are docking… Well so much about our plan. When we woke up the ship was moving backwards and therefor away from the island. We at first didn’t think much of it, but when we got ready for breakfast the captain made an announcement that during the docking process the ship destroyed one of the fenders and we would have to use the life boats as tenders to the island. While we were at breakfast they decided to try one last time if the ship could dock if we went in the port backwards and it actually worked out.

LCNN5174So we went on the island as one of the first ones after all (but with a 2 hour delay) and had so many pool lounges to choose (even though there was a second ship again). I decided to stay by the pool, while my cruise buddy hung out at the beach. Although Harvest Caye is also a private island of NCL it is run by the locals and therefor your cruise packages do not extend onto the island. Everything on the island costs money…

The pool and the beach are beautiful and simple amazing. We bought ourselves a coconut (to drink and take pictures with – do it for the gram). The island in general is still very natural (you’ll find plenty of iguanas hanging out by or in the pool) and a great spot for pictures.

P1020391Once we were super hungry we decided to head back on the ship earlier than necessary instead of buying food on the island (one could go back and forth between the ship and the island but we were too lazy and just took some cereal for snacks again). So we went to the buffet restaurant without a detour and ate a super late lunch, before getting ready in our room and heading back to the buffet just 2 hours later for dinner. And yes you guessed it right, we ate fruits, pizza, Alfredo pasta, crepes… as every other night. After the comedy show and the nightly party at the pool deck we went straight to bed.

Roatan, Honduras – Thursday

IMG_1097We arrived in the port of Roatan quite a bit earlier than planned and since we always left our balcony door open, the locals woke us up with their welcome music and therefor we could not sleep in like we planned. So off we went for breakfast and then wanted to head into the little town surrounding the port.

But we ended up not even leaving the port area. Because the only way in and out of the port (without a tour) was to walk through a tunnel full of cab drivers and tour guides trying to sell their services to you. All of them yelling at the same time – putting signs in your face – getting quite sexist and catcalling us. So we turned around, got back on the ship and didn’t leave it anymore. We were not the only ones having this experience, even families with kids had it and we did send an email about it to NCL.

IMG_1098Since most of the people were venturing around the island of Roatan, the pool on the ship was pretty empty and we got to tan some more and enjoy the sun. We only left the pool to get our lunch (of course at the buffet restaurant). Thanks to my waterproof e-book reader I got to cool off in the pool while reading my book. We also finally went ahead and tested the waterslides (except the looping one) and thanks to that we found out how much we gained (not that we wanted to know).

IMG_1162After a while I got bored at the pool anyways so I packed my stuff and headed to the gym once again (I mean how can you not be motivated with that kind of view). But we had to get ready for an early dinner, because we had tickets to see “The Choir of Man” at 7:30pm and well that show is super amazing. And we ended up getting tickets for their show on the next day as well.

Since my cruise buddy was really tired I decided to head to the Glow Party at the pool deck by myself (since this was supposed to be the best party), but it turned out to not be my favorite party and so it didn’t take long for me to return to the room and go to bed as well.

If you want to know what we did on our last day on the ship and how the disembarkation worked stay tuned, because that’s all in my next post.
